When the sea becomes mountains
Blooming heather of white spray
When the wind steals your words yet unspoken
As warring storm clouds take your breath away
When we stand with our backs to the land
Turn our eyes to where the horizon should have been
When December storms come calling
All hope seems as distant as the spring
But how clear blue and bright breaks the morning light
The new day's dawn greets the country
And the church will ring with each song we sing
For those in peril on the sea
When I married a trawlerman
I was warned of a life of misery
But when the salt stings you lips and breaks you heartsore
You’ll realise how sweet his love could be
Every blackened towering wave bids us fear this unmarked grave
There’s no place to put your flowers on the foam
When December storms come calling
The nights leave you sleepless and alone
But how clear blue and bright breaks the morning light
The new day's dawn greets the country
And the church will ring with each song we sing
For those in peril on the sea
With this tide false winds blow
Please don’t go, please don’t go
