My Last Autumn Walk

Copperboots

Composed by: John Copperboots
A day fades in shadows drifting
Silent clocks in locked-up doors
Footsteps echo in fog’s shifting
Light now fades on dreamless shores

Whispers trace pure words unspoken
Ink of night in dark’s cold hue
Stars lay webs, faint signs, half-broken
Where will thoughts’ thin trails pursue?

Creaking stairs in realms forsaken
Moon hides face in shrouded veil
In the bliss of loss mistaken
Truth is hunted, truth goes pale

Winds bring tales, so soft, misleading
Leaves descend like tears on stone
Will it hear the soul’s pride bleeding?
Will it strike a haunted tone?

Rain paints time’s designs, unyielding
On the frozen panes of glass
Eyes reflect in shadows, shielding
Fading gifts of love now past

Lost in silence, voices drowning
Worlds enclosed in single tears
Tracks in sand erased, disowning
Who he was, and who still hears?

In the hush, truth slips unspoken
Wrapped in fog, beyond our sight
Echoes drift, dreams lie broken
In the dark, the fading light
